CENTRALNY PORT KOMUNIKACYJNY AIRPORT
Challenge
Poland is undertaking one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Central and Eastern Europe: the US$8.6bn Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK).
Set to replace Warsaw Chopin Airport, CPK is strategically positioned between Warsaw and Łódź to become a critical transport hub for the region. The project aims to integrate air, rail, and road travel, while also contributing to national economic growth and enhancing regional connectivity.
Portland Design was brought on board to deliver a comprehensive retail and hospitality experience throughout this vast new airport.
Approach
Portland’s role spans the entire passenger journey, from arrival at the railway or bus stations, through check-in, airside terminals, concourses, and the full arrivals experience.
The focus is on creating a uniquely Polish approach to hospitality, blending modern retail with local culture.
Key features include a landside interchange plaza, flooded with natural light and greenery, serving as a vibrant meeting point that connects all modes of transport. Our design strategy aligns with CPK’s broader goals: promoting sustainable travel, integrating future-facing technology, and creating an efficient, people-first environment.
Results
Portland’s work is helping to define the character and functionality of the airport's retail and hospitality offer, ensuring it supports the wider vision of a connected, sustainable, and welcoming gateway to Poland. The outcome will not only enhance the traveller experience but also play a central role in Poland’s long-term economic and infrastructural development.
